BMW has once again made a huge leap in its electric path, launching its 6th-generation EV powertrain in the all-electric iX3. With this latest step, the German carmaker promises more now, not only with greater power and efficiency, but also a smoother, exciting driving experience, remaining true to its “Ultimate Driving Machine” DNA.
A complete upgrade is the new 6th-generation system, using next battery tech, lightweight electric motors, and smart energy management. All of these advances are making the iX3 a quicker, more efficient and easier to live with on a daily basis EV.
The BMW iX3 50 xDrive will be the first variant of the fully electric SAV to be produced starting in the fall of 2025 (energy consumption, combined: 17.9 – 15.1 kW/100 km; CO2 class: A; range: 679 – 805 km (421 – 500 miles); provisional according to WLTP). The BMW iX3 50 xDrive will have an output of 345 kW (469 hp) and it will have electric all-wheel drive, and fully electric variants will continue including entry level models.
Charging has also been faster and more versatile. With enhanced DC fast charging capability, owners can top up the battery in minutes, making it much more reasonable to go on long distance roadtrips. This keeps the iX3 competitive with high performance competitors in the market like the Tesla Model Y and Audi Q8 e-tron.
Built With Sustainability In Mind
BMW is not only investing in making a performance oriented vehicle but also working on making EVs cleaner to build! By providing the new powertrain, BMW is working to minimize reliance on rare and environmentally hazardous materials and making this innovation work efficiently to everyone’s benefit. Moreover, since battery packs from BMW will be brought to market with the design intent of recycling, it can also allude to another long-standing commitment by BMW that represents sustainability in the resources and the manufacturing process.
Why this all matters
This will be the 6th generation of an EV powertrain and shows BMW’s effort to stay ahead of the electric curve, especially with luxury competitors such as Mercedes-Benz, Aud, Or and Tesla, adopting an aggressive stance in the EV world. And, BMW will be bringing the new iX3 out soon offering a thoroughly entertaining and safe mix of performance, efficiency and everyday usefulness.
What’s Next
The iX3 is only the beginning, and BMW has confirmed that this sophisticated powertrain will be operational in future models, including new sedans and SUVs. For customers, this means more options in premium electric mobility, with no sacrifice to driving pleasure.
With the iX3 paving the way, the message from BMW is clear: electric driving can be clean, powerful, and remain distinctly BMW.
