Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has increased the size of its fundraising plan to $84.75 billion, showing strong investor confidence as major technology companies invest heavily in artificial intelligence (AI).

Earlier this week, Alphabet announced plans to raise $80 billion to support the expansion of its AI infrastructure, including new data centers and computing resources. The company is competing with other tech giants in what many industry leaders describe as a once-in-a-generation AI race.

According to a regulatory filing dated June 2, Alphabet has now increased its fundraising target. The company plans to raise $18 billion through the sale of Class A and Class C shares, along with $16.75 billion through depositary shares. Previously, Alphabet intended to raise $30 billion through public stock offerings backed by major investment banks.

Alphabet’s other fundraising plans remain unchanged. These include a $10 billion private share sale to Berkshire Hathaway and a $40 billion at-the-market stock offering program expected to take place during the third quarter of the year.

The company said the stock offerings are expected to close on June 4, while the depositary share sale is scheduled to close one day later.

The additional funding will help Alphabet expand its AI capabilities and infrastructure. In April, the company increased its annual capital spending forecast by $5 billion, bringing total expected spending to between $180 billion and $190 billion.

Across the technology industry, companies are investing record amounts in AI development. Many firms that traditionally relied on existing cash reserves are now raising new capital through stock and debt offerings to fund AI projects.

Analysts estimate that the world’s largest technology companies will spend more than $700 billion this year on AI infrastructure, up from earlier expectations of around $600 billion, highlighting the growing importance of artificial intelligence in the future of the tech industry.
