Anthropic has launched Claude Sonnet 5.5, the second model in its Claude 5.5 family, as the artificial intelligence company expands its product lineup ahead of a planned initial public offering (IPO). Announced on Monday, the new model focuses on faster performance, lower operating costs, and everyday business tasks.

Claude Sonnet 5.5 Pricing and Features

Anthropic has priced Claude Sonnet 5.5 at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. These prices remain unchanged from its predecessor, Claude Sonnet 5.

The company says the latest model requires fewer tokens to complete the same tasks, potentially helping businesses manage their AI usage costs.

Sonnet 5.5 is designed for enterprise applications, including software development, document creation, and spreadsheet management. These capabilities make it suitable for companies looking to integrate AI into their daily operations.

Claude Sonnet 5.5 vs Claude Opus 5.5

The new model joins Claude Opus 5.5, which Anthropic introduced last week.

Opus 5.5 costs $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens. Sonnet 5.5 offers a lower-priced alternative for businesses seeking AI assistance with routine tasks.

Anthropic is positioning the two models to serve different requirements, providing customers with options based on performance needs and operating budgets.

Enterprise Customers Drive Anthropic’s Growth

Anthropic said enterprise customers account for approximately 80% of its business. Its customers include Salesforce, Databricks, Goldman Sachs, and Novo Nordisk.

The company’s expanding customer base comes as it prepares for a potential IPO, making its enterprise AI products an important part of its business strategy.

Claude Haiku 5.5 Launch Expected Soon

Anthropic is also preparing to introduce Claude Haiku 5.5, its third model in the latest family.

The upcoming model is designed for fast, high-volume workloads, expanding the company’s offerings for different business requirements.

However, the launches come amid growing discussions about AI safety. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently called for the global AI industry to slow the development of new capabilities to address potential risks.

With Sonnet 5.5, Anthropic continues expanding its enterprise AI offerings while preparing for its planned public market debut.
