Google is expanding its Gemini Enterprise AI platform into the legal industry with new tools designed for lawyers and law firms. The new Gemini Enterprise for Legal aims to help legal professionals manage routine and complex tasks while allowing lawyers to spend more time on high-value work.
The platform includes connections to legal software and data platforms. Google is also adding AI agents that can handle specialized legal and administrative tasks with limited human supervision. The company says the system is designed to keep legal data secure and confidential.
Google launched Gemini Enterprise for business customers in October as part of its wider push to attract corporate clients. Google Cloud has become an important growth area for Alphabet as demand for artificial intelligence continues to rise.
The legal AI market is becoming highly competitive. Companies such as Anthropic, Thomson Reuters, Harvey and LexisNexis are also developing AI tools for lawyers. Thomson Reuters recently introduced Thomson 1.0, a large language model trained on its legal research content.
Google said Gemini Enterprise for Legal can securely connect with legal technology platforms from companies including Thomson Reuters, Harvey and LexisNexis. This gives law firms more flexibility when choosing the tools and AI models they want to use.
Law firms are increasingly using generative AI for legal research, drafting documents, reviewing information and managing cases. AI is also being used for administrative work to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
Google said firms including Weil Gotshal, Cleary Gottlieb, Freshfields and Williams & Connolly are working with the company on its legal AI platform. Google Cloud product director Amrita Mehrok said the system is designed to give law firms flexibility in choosing AI models.
The expansion shows how quickly AI adoption in the legal industry is growing. As law firms look for faster and more efficient ways to work, competition among technology companies to provide specialized legal AI tools is expected to increase.
