Google has announced further modifications to its search experience powered by AI by incorporating data from online communities such as Reddit and others. The upgrade is expected to make users get more personalized and useful advice on their online searches.

Google explains that more users prefer getting actual reviews from fellow internet users compared to browsing conventional websites. For this reason, the AI Overview of Search results on Google will display excerpts from social media conversations, community posts, and discussion forums. The function will also give additional information about the contributor’s identity, user ID, or community title to enable users to identify the sources of the information.

This development aims to offer users more comprehensive responses to specific subjects. Users tend to include “Reddit” in their searches since they trust online community discussions.

However, this update comes with concerns regarding accuracy. In the past, the Google’s AI Overviews have been known to exhibit some errors, which were mainly due to the system not being able to recognize sarcasm and jokes.

For example, the system would recommend eating tiny rocks daily and putting glue on a pizza to prevent cheese from falling off.

While Google has assured users that its AI Overviews are much more reliable, experts say that AI algorithms are capable of producing inaccurate information at times. The introduction of sources and hyperlinks will make it easier for users to determine whether the information provided by AI algorithms is credible.

This update demonstrates that Google is trying to integrate AI-generated responses and human conversation, but users need to be careful before accepting any important information offered by AI search engines.
