Samsung has officially unveiled its most ambitious smartphone to date the Galaxy Z TriFold, priced at a staggering $2,899 in the United States. Announced on Tuesday, the groundbreaking device will go on sale starting January 30, setting a new benchmark for foldable smartphone innovation and premium pricing.
The Galaxy Z TriFold is Samsung’s first smartphone to feature a triple-folding display, allowing the screen to unfold twice into a massive 10-inch tablet-sized panel the largest display ever seen on a Galaxy phone. This positions the device as both a smartphone and a productivity powerhouse, designed for multitasking, entertainment, and professional workflows.
Despite its expansive screen, the TriFold remains impressively slim, measuring just 3.9 millimeters at its thinnest point when fully unfolded. Samsung also claims the device is engineered for durability, capable of enduring up to 200,000 folds over its lifespan, addressing one of the biggest concerns surrounding foldable technology.
In the U.S., the Galaxy Z TriFold will launch in black only, with 512GB of internal storage as standard. Notably, the device will be sold exclusively through Samsung Experience Stores and Samsung.com, meaning it won’t be available through major mobile carriers a move that underscores its niche, ultra-premium positioning.
At $2,899, the Galaxy Z TriFold becomes the most expensive smartphone available in the U.S., surpassing even the fully loaded iPhone 17 Pro Max with 2TB storage and Samsung’s own Galaxy Z Fold, which starts around $2,000. This pricing reflects not just its cutting-edge design but also Samsung’s bet that early adopters and power users are ready to pay for the next evolution of mobile form factors.
The TriFold also marks the first trifold smartphone officially available in the U.S. market. While Huawei previously launched the Mate XT trifold in China, it was never sold domestically. Samsung’s move could give it a first-mover advantage, especially as rumors continue to swirl about Apple entering the foldable phone market later this year.
With its tablet-sized display, ultra-thin engineering, and premium materials, the Galaxy Z TriFold represents Samsung’s boldest step yet in redefining what a smartphone can be. While its price places it firmly in luxury territory, the device signals the future direction of foldable technology and sets the stage for intense competition in the ultra-high-end smartphone market.
As foldables continue to evolve, the Galaxy Z TriFold may not be for everyone, but it undeniably reshapes expectations for mobile innovation in 2026.
