SpaceX has received a major boost ahead of its highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO), securing a total of $6.45 billion in new contracts from the U.S. Space Force. The announcement highlights the company’s growing role in national defense and space technology.
The largest contract, worth $4.16 billion, was awarded on Friday to help build satellites for the U.S. missile and air defense system known as the “Golden Dome.” The project is a key defense initiative backed by President Donald Trump and aims to strengthen the country’s ability to detect and respond to missile threats.
Earlier in the same week, SpaceX also received a separate $2.29 billion contract to develop a low Earth orbit communications network for military use. Together, these deals represent one of the biggest government investments in the company to date.
The contracts come at an important time as SpaceX prepares for what many analysts expect could be the largest IPO in history. However, the company has already revealed in its IPO filing that government contracts play a significant role in its business. In 2025, approximately 20% of SpaceX’s revenue came from government agencies.
The new agreements also demonstrate the trust federal agencies place in SpaceX. Over the past decade, the company has become the dominant force in the space launch industry through its reliable rocket launches, satellite deployments, and advanced space technologies.
Despite its success, SpaceX acknowledged in its IPO documents that future government business could be affected by changes in political priorities, regulations, funding levels, and federal policies.
As investors closely watch the upcoming IPO, these multi-billion-dollar contracts strengthen SpaceX’s financial outlook and reinforce its position as a leading player in both the commercial space sector and national security programs.
