TikTok has confirmed it is still working to fully restore its U.S. infrastructure following a major data center outage that disrupted the platform for millions of users. The technical issues emerged shortly after TikTok finalized the creation of a new U.S.-based entity with American investors a move designed to comply with federal regulations and avoid a nationwide ban.
Over the past week, users across the United States reported widespread problems on the app, including broken search results, videos failing to load, errors while posting content, delayed comments, unusual changes to the “For You” feed, and missing engagement metrics. Many creators also noticed zero views on new posts and discrepancies in earnings dashboards.
On Monday, TikTok attributed these disruptions to a power outage at a U.S. data center, which affected multiple apps and services. While progress has been made, the company says recovery is not yet complete. In a statement posted on X by the TikTok USDS Joint Venture account, the company said it has made “significant progress” with its U.S. data center partner, but some technical issues may persist especially when posting new content.
“We’re committed to bringing TikTok back to its full capacity as soon as possible,” the company said, adding that it will continue to provide updates. TikTok also reassured users that their data and engagement numbers are safe, explaining that missing views, likes, or earnings are the result of server timeouts rather than permanent losses.
The company has not disclosed the identity of its data center partner, but the outage coincided with a major winter storm that impacted more than 220 million Americans, potentially contributing to infrastructure disruptions. The timing of the technical issues has also sparked speculation online, as the glitches occurred alongside growing civil unrest following the death of U.S. citizen Alex Pretti during an ICE operation. TikTok has not addressed these claims directly, maintaining that the problems are purely technical.
As of today, users may still experience slower load times, posting errors, or inconsistent engagement metrics. However, TikTok says systems are steadily stabilizing and functionality should return to normal soon.
With TikTok continuing to play a central role in creator economies, social trends, and digital marketing strategies, the outage highlights the importance of resilient infrastructure especially as the company transitions to a new U.S.-based operational model. For now, TikTok urges users and creators to remain patient while restoration efforts continue.
If you’re experiencing issues, TikTok recommends restarting the app, updating to the latest version, and waiting for full server recovery before reposting content.
