WhatsApp has announced a fresh set of group chat features aimed at making conversations more organized, expressive, and practical. The new update introduces member tags, text stickers, and event reminders, further strengthening WhatsApp’s position as one of the most feature-rich messaging platforms globally.
Member Tags Bring Better Identity and Context in Groups
One of the most useful additions is member tags, a feature designed to reduce confusion in large or active group chats. With member tags, users can assign themselves different names or roles depending on the group they’re part of. For example, someone could appear as “Anna’s Dad” in a family group, “Goalkeeper” in a sports team chat, or “Project Lead” in a work-related group.
This contextual identity system helps group members quickly understand who’s who, especially in communities, school groups, workplace chats, or event-based conversations where participants may not know each other personally. Importantly, these tags are group-specific, allowing users to maintain privacy while still providing clarity.
Text Stickers Add a New Layer of Personal Expression
WhatsApp is also expanding its creative toolkit with text stickers. This feature allows users to turn any typed word or phrase into a sticker simply by entering the text into Sticker Search. Unlike traditional stickers, these text-based stickers can be customized instantly and don’t need to be shared in a chat before being saved.
Users can directly add their newly created text stickers to their personal sticker packs, making it easier to reuse frequently used phrases, inside jokes, or reactions. This enhancement gives conversations a more expressive and personalized feel without relying solely on pre-made sticker packs.
Event Reminders Improve Group Coordination
The third major update focuses on practicality with event reminders. When creating an event within a group chat, users can now set custom reminders for invitees. These reminders help ensure that participants don’t forget upcoming meetings, celebrations, or activities, reducing the need for repeated follow-up messages.
This feature is particularly useful for planning group activities such as birthdays, office meetings, sports matches, or travel plans, making WhatsApp a more reliable coordination tool.
WhatsApp Continues to Strengthen Group Chats
These new features build on WhatsApp’s recent group-focused upgrades, including sharing large files up to 2GB, sending HD photos and videos, screen sharing, voice chats, and improved calling capabilities. Together, they reflect WhatsApp’s ongoing strategy to transform group chats into fully functional communication hubs.
As these updates roll out globally, WhatsApp users can expect more organized, expressive, and efficient group conversations whether for family, work, or community use.
